Are you a Leader or a Manager?

What's the difference between a Manager and a Leader?

I think it's about ability to Influence.

A Manager's role is to run the existing business in the most effective, efficient way possible, and they have the title and the authority to make things happen. They can rely on this authority and often stay within that comfort zone of being a person of authority - this is the way they get things done.

A Leader is different, a leader can come from any part of the organisation. And at any level a leader can bring about change - because they are building Influence, and don't therefore need to rely on authority bequeathed to them through a title.

It's usual for most organisations to have both Managers to run the existing business and Leaders to drive change - and they both have impact. But a Leader brings people with them and great Leaders inspire others through influence 🔥
