It’s Friday, so smile.
I was driving my son Joel to school this morning. I was harassed by the traffic and preoccupied with my thoughts about how much I had on my ‘To Do’ list to complete by the weekend. It was raining and my mood could have been better!
Then the Lollipop lady who helps the children across the road outside the school gave me an enormous smile and for the moment our eyes met I couldn’t help but smile widely back.
As I drove on I felt my mood lift, my optimism return and as Joel got out of the car, I left him with a big smile too.
This small gift had a lasting impact on my day and reminded me of a quote from one of my favourite books:
"A smile costs nothing, but gives much.
It enriches those that receive without making poorer those who give.
It takes but a moment, but the memory of it sometimes lasts forever.
None is so rich and mighty that he cannot get along without it.
And none is so poor that he cannot be made rich by it.
Yet a smile cannot be bought, begged, borrowed or stolen.
It's of no value to anyone until it’s given away."
From How to Win Friends and Influence People - Dale Carnegie
Some people are too tired to give you a smile, so give them one of yours, no one needs a smile as much as those who have none to give.
Happy Friday! 😀😃
