Have you powered through your most important tasks, or are you exhausted and frustrated by the distractions that have come your way?

I loved working for Patrick, my boss when I first joined Reuters about 20 years ago. Patrick had a wonderful phrase that he would use every day - his 'unavoidable task'.

I loved this because it not only meant it was the one thing he would get done that day, no matter what distractions came his way, but also by declaring to his team, he was publicly making himself accountable to getting it done.
